We Needed a Bigger Truck for Texas!

Well, I'd say we needed a bigger truck for this load. Gary and Joe have this truck so full that suitcases are going up front with us. But....by golly, we're just about ready!
The pictures below are some of the great things on the truck. I really need to get back to work so I won't talk about each picture! The one picture of the green chair has a fabulous retro lamp with 3---not 2--but 3 shades! It gets lost in the picture so wanted to point it out.

One-Of-A-Kind Stool---A Real Work of Art

This oak and pine stool has been turned into a unique piece of folk-art. The seat was really worn, so it has been recovered with vintage yardsticks. It is really a cute piece.

Not only is this useable, but a nice conversation piece. One of these yardsticks is actually from a bank I used to work at. I'm sure we will have requests from our customers that want special memories on the seat!

Can You Judge a Book by It's Cover? Oh Yeah!

Who wouldn't love these old books? I just came across a whole box of them. Even if the story isn't worth reading, maybe the beauty is on the cover.
They sure don't make covers like this anymore. Maybe a pretty jacket, but when the book is out of the jacket it is usually a solid color. Do you like them?

How about a trio of mid-century telephones! I remember the party line my grandma had when she lived out in the country. We used to get in trouble if we were caught listening! These phones are so heavy I don't know how we were even able to hold them to our ear for very long.

The Holiday Season is Approaching-Fast!

Last night as I was thinking about the "Holiday Entertainment" section that I will be putting together in my shop, I decided that I would put together one in Texas at the Marburger Farm show too! I had the tv on in the background and our local PBS station was having it's membership drive --and low and behold, they had that Christmas Show with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra and it made me realize that summer is almost gone and the Holiday season is approaching. Here are a few shots of fun pieces. I love these spice canisters--aluminum with pink tops.
I'll have lots of crystal, etched wine goblets, serving pieces, candle holders and festive pottery!

Remember the sets of Pyrex bowls? My mom still uses hers. There also is a big yellow bowl that I don't have shown with these.

Even if you are not a collector of glass, everyone uses them! That's why I price them so they are affordable and usable. Then it's not a tragedy if they crack or break! Well, maybe sometimes!

If Only a Thimble Could Talk

Just think of all the conversations that are inside these thimbles! Some of these are engraved, some are bent, some are scratched, all are well-used! Hours and hours of work inside of these. I always figure the fancy ones were for gifts.
I love this shot glass. It is exactly made like a thimble and engraved on it's front is
"Just a thimbleful". Maybe it was used at the quilting bee!

Chalkware Goldfish for Your Retro Bathroom

This Chalk Goldfish Family is the cutest I've seen. There are 2 tiny flecks on mama, but the children are perfect. I had to laugh. I have 2 sisters. I am the middle. If you notice, this middle one is different than the other two. I should keep this like a family portrait or something just to irritate my 2 sissys! If I ever want to get a rise out of them, remind them I am a middle child. Ha Ha.
I need to make sure they look at the blog. That will get them going! I love it.

Fiestaware Frosty Glasses Like I've Never Seen

I don't care if you like early Americana or 1960's, you gotta love these. You probably even had some! I have never seen any like these, they are marked on the bottom. More than likely there were 6 or 8, but only these survived!
Now that I have shared them, I'll get them wrapped up and ready for Texas.

Retro Cocktail Set

The pitcher and stir stick is clear, but the retro shaped glasses are blue, amethyst, amber and green. If you used these for your guests before going out--you would be a real hit! I don't care if you put KoolAid in it! They are awesome!
I'm trying to price and pack, and keep stopping to take pictures! More to come, I have so much fun stuff I don't know where to start!

Autumn Cornucopias

These creamy white cornucopias would look great on any harvest table. Fill them with leaves or twigs, they would match any tablescape. Several sizes, doubles and singles. I would date these the 1940's, marked "Made in Japan" on the bottoms.

These would fall in the category of "Something You Can't Live Without!"

Child's Play

How sweet is this set of Children's LustreWare. Couldn't resist sharing it with you! Can't decide if I'll put it my Fall Display or Children's Display. You'll have to come to Tent H-11 at Marburger Farm to see which one I choose.
I have this priced at $28--yes that's for everything! What a deal.

Do You Prefer Old Documents or New?

Why is old paper so intriguing? We spend so much time shredding and tossing outdated papers and documents. Afraid of identity theft, want to maintain our privacy or keep from clutter. But...anytime I get the chance to buy this old stuff, I do without hesitation. Why? It's brittle, yellowed, dirty, germy--and I love it. Most of these documents are Deeds or Mortgages from the 1860's to the 1890's.The writing is beautiful. They would be great framed.
Now this picture is from today, yesterday, last week and on and on. We all have it. But would we buy it? Of course not. Is this a fun business or what!

Better go for now. Just couldn't resist showing you these deeds and documents!

A Visit at Country Meadows Antiques

Located just 20 miles north of St. Louis, our shop is in Alton, Illinois. It is definitely a place to shop! We are in the middle of the Antique District, full of shops and restaurants AND we are open 7 days a week. We have been in business for over 23 years and this is our 4th location. Over 5,000 square feet of goodies---so we decided to rent out some spaces to select dealers. This booth is our Donna, our glass specialist. You name it, Donna has it!

This is just a shot I took for fun that shows what happens to a cupboard full of linens after an overly aggressive looker hits it! Why do we bother to straighten it up!

The whole back of our shop is a booth full of vintage clothing. Ladies spend hours looking here.

New Projects After Dark!

I went out to check on Gary--you know--the man in charge--and I couldn't resist taking pictures of these projects. They were sitting outside on the patio so they wouldn't get dusty in the workshop. The light hit them perfectly. This oak table is really a fun piece. The table top had no bottom but it does now. The bottom is from an old treadle sewing machine. We had it sandblasted and painted and Gary decided to put the two together--Magic! His refinishing work is the best.
These chairs are not fancy, but certainly affordable and would look great with any table. And you could dance on this bench.

This little table could also be a plant stand. It is going to be great after Gary gets done with it.

This little guy, an early Raggedy Andy is airing out. Don't know what to do with him yet. He has definitely been loved and played with. But at his last home, some cats used him for a pillow. Yuck! Anyway, when I get done with him, he will be ready for a new home.
