Church Potluck Dish----Before & After

There's nothing like a church potluck! Last night we had a real feast. My friend Vickie always brings scalloped corn casserole (I think especially for me!) and this time she also brought this whipped cream cherry salad. It was really yummy, but what really excited me was the watermelon bowl. Anyone that knows me, knows I love dishes--especially cool serving dishes, bowls and platters. I loved this bowl, so I took a picture before the potluck. Afterwards when we were done with the dishes, I looked back, and there was that bowl again--see below for the surprise!

How fun are the seeds in the bottom! I had to take another picture. They thought I was crazy!

Doesn't take much to excite me--really!! As fall and the holiday season approaches, I'll be showing more fun dishes to use for entertaining. I love it!

Yellowware Pottery

If you love antiques, you love Yellowware Pottery! These couple of photos were taken in Nashville at the Spring Tailgate Show. Alot of times, I don't know or remember whose booth is whose. But I know this is Munday and Munday Antiques (Makala and Sandy Munday). I haven't talked to them recently, Gary saw them in Indiana at the Heartland Show that he did solo, so I haven't asked their permission to show these photos, but I'm sure they don't mind.

I wish I had more pictures to show, they have the most incredible inventory of pottery--the best I've ever seen. And....they know all about it. I have some pieces that I bought because I liked them, and the color matched what I was looking for.....but they know the history. If you ever are looking for pottery, look them up at a show. A great mother-daughter team that works very hard to please all. Unusual, fun and mint condition pieces!

RED FRIDAY

This picture if from the Tailgate Show in Nashville, but I can't remember what dealer. I love the red cotton dresses on these early mammy dolls. I wish they were mine! Hope everyone has a great RED FRIDAY! It's going to be hot here in Alton.

Early Sewing --What Will I Find Next!

So much stuff--it's all running together. These great old spools and tools were in the bottom of a hat box. I have know idea where they came from. But I do know that I love finding stuff like this. It will be great with my other linens, buttons, and textiles.
As we are redoing our shop, I am going to move all of the linens, quilts and anything textile related into one section. My own little fabric shop! Keep watching for more.

American Pickers--Antique Archeaology

American Pickers--you gotta love'em! While in Iowa a couple of weeks ago, Sharon of Sweet Repose asked if we wanted to head to LeClaire Iowa. We had been running all day, but she knew
how much we loved the show. We got there after the shop had closed, but still--we were so excited to see the shop. Gary was like a kid--wanting to knock and ask if Mike and Frank could come out and play!
Gary visited with this nice man about his old car. It was beautifully restored.

Maybe next time we'll get there when the shop is open. We love old signs and bet there are some great ones. All I know is that every time Gary sees a white Sprinter, he almost drives off the road looking to see if "Antique Archeaology" is on the door. He would probably leave me in the car and go with the guys! We love the show. In this business--you meet all kinds of people--with all kinds of stuff--and everyone has their idea of what it is worth. It's real simple, it's worth what someone is willing to pay for it. And if we, as buyers want it bad enough--we pay the price. Isn't this a fun business! Keep on picken guys!

New Candles & Soap are a Hit!!!

You wouldn't believe how people are loving the glycerin soap and soy candles! Truly a hit! I thought I had alot, but at the rate they are selling, I'll need more! One of the new flavors "Strawberry Rhubarb" smells like Grandma Bertha's cobbler.

I haven't really even fixed the display as good as I want it. It doesn't seem to matter! Yum!

Even the birds of Iowa live in wonderful homes! I saved this picture that was taken at Sister's Garden in Kalona, Iowa just for RED FRIDAY. I love it, but then I love RED!
