Handwritten Recipes

There's nothing like an old cookbook.  I can look at a cookbook just like I was reading a murder mystery.  I especially like the recipes that are tucked inside.  There's something about those recipes--especially the handwritten ones that I fund very special.  You can always tell the ones that have been really used.  I laugh when I find one that has no name--what is it?  Read the ingredients and try to figure it out--a main dish? a casserole?  Just like finding a phone number scribbled down on a scrap with no name!  I do that all the time!  I have a friend that won't use an old cookbook because he thinks they are germy!  Maybe they are--but so is the air we breathe!  It's a gloomy day here today and I wish I could stay in and browse through cookbooks, but I can't.   Hope your day is a good one.

Until next time,
Pam

  1. You are right about the hand written; just looking at some I have the other day as I was going through cookbooks while packing to move. At my wedding shower a hundred years ago, each person was asked to write their favorite recipe on an index card. I still have those cards in my file, and use them. Some of the authors are gone now, my mother, grandmother, aunts, and their friends, but their cards are sweet reminders of them....all handwritten.

  2. Great to hear from you! Hope all is well! I love old recipes and you're right--alot of our favorite cooks are gone, but the memories sure aren't.
